The construction of the Circular Congregational Church and Parish House not only tells of a story of a structure?s building process. More than anything else, it tells of the story of its congregation.

According to history, the Circular Congregational Church and Parish House was built in 1890. However, it can trace its history back to the early 1800s when the congregation was formed. In 1804, the members decided to build a circular church. The local architect, Robert Mills, was enlisted for the design. Of course, the man of such high caliber did not disappoint. He produced as 2000-seater building, which was also the first major domed structure in North America. Sadly, this structure burned down just before the Civil War broke out.

For a couple of years, the members were disheartened and even lost hope. Luckily, remaining members built the current building in the ruins of the 1804 church with a Romanesque style, which was a very bold and modern style at the time.
