The Dove Street Festival of Lights is more of a tradition rather than an event, really. It is an annual thing where fifty homes on Dove Street are decorated with magnificent lights in accordance to the Christmas season.
The Dove Street Festival of Lights started in 1990, when one of the residents on the area adorned their magnolia tree with lights in celebration of their baby?s first Christmas. Their neighbors joined in and also decorated their lawns and homes, which soon enough attracted visitors.
When some visitors offered financial help for the electric bills, the residents thought about helping other islanders who are much more in need than they are. This gave birth to The Deep Well Project, which is a local charity supported by this event.
