Ellicott?s Rock may seem like your regular, vandalized rock for some, but to those who knew of the story behind its carving, it would be better appreciated. According to historical accounts, Andrew Ellicott marked a large rock in Chattooga River with the letters ?NC-GA? in 1811. Two years later, a delegation of South Carolina and North Carolina commissioners marked another rock in the Chattogga River bank. They inscribed ?Lat 35Ad 1813 NC + SC? to mark the juncture where the two Carolinas? state line meet.

The thing here is that the Ellicott?s Rock is not the one Ellicott marked in 1811. The second rock is more popularly known as such, and is well known to be the boundary lines of the Carolinas and the state of Georgia.
