Fig Island is an archaeological site in South Carolina, along its south Atlantic Coast. It is also known as 38CH42. It is one of the most complex shell ring locations in all of North America, although, it is not the largest of the sort.
Listed as a National Historic Landmark as of 2007, the Fig Island offers three shell rings on its site. Fig Island 1 is the biggest of the three. It measures 157 meters long and 111 meter wide with a 5.5 meter height. Two smaller structures lie inside it, called ?plazas?.
Fig Island 2 measures 77 meters in diameter and 2.5 meters tall. It is the most circular, while the Fig Island 3 is the smallest of the lot.
The Fig Island has been listed with a restricted address for the longest time. However, recent developments now allow the public to know its location.
