The Greenville County Museum of Art does not charge admission and shows off an impressive collection of works by Jasper Johns and Andrew Wyeth as well as a range of American works of art with a Southern focus. In 2011, one of its much-anticipated traveling exhibits features the Working South collection of Mary Whyte, which focuses hardworking Americans in little-noticed occupations.
The perfect way to end a tour of the museum is to do a bit of shopping at the museum shop for mementos. Available at the shop are a distinct collection of pottery and handmade jewelry, note cards and calendars, posters and magnets, and toys and games for kids. There?s also a wide range of educational materials available like books on Andrew Wyeth.
In the months of summer, the museum holds a good selection of both focused and compact workshops that are offered at different levels, particularly for kids, teenagers, and adults. Workshops focus on art techniques and styles like calligraphy collage, acrylic, and watercolors. Discounts are offered to members of the museum as well as affiliate groups.
