Currently popularly known as the Hampton Plantation State Historic Site, the Hampton Plantation is a historic 18th century plantation located in McClellanville, South Carolina. It is the home of what is considered as the state?s finest example of a massive two and a half frame plantation house in Georgian style architecture.
Established in 1735, the Hampton Plantation serves today as an interpretive site for the slavery system that used to rule the area. Without the said system, these plantations wouldn?t have thrived and succeeded, and there wouldn?t have been any great source for the country?s economy?s growth.
Declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1970, the Hampton Plantation is now open to the public year round, except during the holidays.
