Located in Charleston, South Carolina is the only independent Huguenot church in the US. Known simply as the Huguenot Church, this historic religious building was built in 1844 in the oldest city in the state after the design of the architect Edward Brickell White. The congregation was initially affiliated with the Calvinist Reformed Church of France, making it also possible for it to be known as the French Huguenot Church.
The Huguenot Church is the third worship place for the congregation built in Charleston. The first church was built in 1687, a couple of years after the first wave of French Huguenots arrived in the city. This first structure burned down in 1796 and was replaced by another one in 1800. This one was torn down later on to make way to the current building.
The Huguenot Church is a National Historic Landmark. It still holds services regularly.
