Built in 1848, the Indian Fields Methodist Campground is a historic site in Dorchester County, South Carolina. It was intended to serve as a camp meeting site for the members of the Methodist Church, and it still is up until today.
The Indian Fields Methodist Campground hosted many camp meetings in the past. These events have always played a huge role in the growth of the Protestant denominations in the rural areas of the US, making it quite an important thing to have. It is also a social event, aside from being a religious one.
The Indian Fields Methodist Campground has been the home to many of these religious gatherings. This role, as well as its unique architecture, allowed it to land a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
