Believed to have been built around the year 1810, the John A. Cuthbert House has a very unclear history. There are actually two tales that surround the house. The first one says that it was initially built by the Cuthberts by the Wyers Pond, but due to several deaths and severe illnesses, the family decided to have it moved by sawing the structure in half. The other story says that it was built originally as a Presbyterian Manse and was later acquired by the Cuthberts. Whether one of these two stories is true, nothing was confirmed.
The John A. Cuthbert House then passed ownership over the 19th century. Mostly, it was owned by military men who owned the property.
Today, the John A. Cuthbert House is a part of the National Register of Historic Place and the Beaufort Historic District.
