Over the years, the city of Beaufort, South Carolina has already developed its distinctive architecture. Most of the houses considered to belong to the Beaufort Style were built during the 19th century, which was also the time when the city boomed with marvelous homes with stunning architecture.
The Lewis Reeve Sams House is one of the best examples of the distinctive Beaufort architecture. Built in 1852, the house is made with awe-inspiring exterior woodwork, Ionic columns, marble front stairs, and fine doorways and chimneys.
Named after its first owner, Lewis Reeve Sams of the prominent Sams family, the house was transferred to different owners as time passed. It also survived a massive fire in 1907 thanks to the cotton gin workers.
