The Little Taj was built around the mid 1800s, around 1856. However, some sources imply that the house could have been around since 1823, when a certain Miss Jane Bond married Henry McKee on the house. This couple was said to have been the original owners of the Robert Small House nearby. In any case, nothing was confirmed, as most homes built around the time may have already lost or didn?t really have any documentation about their construction at all.
The Little Taj may seem just like a typical Beaufort abode, but it was actually skillfully crafted. It was designed to take full advantage of the breeze coming from the tidal basin it faces. This gives the house an excellent airy atmosphere.
Some say that the Little Taj got its name from the playful fact that the house gains a reflection from the tide in front of the property.
