Also known as the Grove Farm or simply The Grove, the Lowndes Grove is a historic site in Charleston, South Carolina. It is situated right by the Ashley River built in 1786.
Records show that the Lowndes Grove was acquired by George Abbot Hall in 1786. Prior to that, the lot was owned by John Gibbes, although, the house he had built was burned down in 1779. The gardens stayed intact, however. The property got its name from its 19th century owned, William Lowndes, a former US Congressman.
The Lowndes Grove is now available as a luxury inn and events venue operated by the Patrick Properties Hospitality Group. It offers five guest suites, two piazzas, indoor event spaces, grand lawn, and several waterfront event spaces.
