Believed to have been built around the early 1820s, the Lucius Cuthbert House is one of the classic and historic homes in the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. It is a basic two-story frame house constructed over a high brick foundation.
According to some physical evidences seen in the house, the original structure was a one room deep building. It may have been changed vastly during the noted renovation and remolding done on the property around the year 1875, transforming it to what people known today.
The Lucius Cuthbert House was used as a bakery during the Civil War. Most of the renovations were done when the property was acquired by F. W. Scheper in the mid 1870s. The current handsome fence still bears the Scheper name.
