The McMaster School is a historic site in Columbia, South Carolina mostly for its participation as an educational structure as soon as it was completed. When it was opened and initially used in 1911, it served as a grammar school in the Richland County School District One. It functioned as such until 1956, allowing it to become closely associated with the educational reform that was pushed in the state during the first half of the twentieth century.
After serving as a grammar school, the McMaster School building was purchased by the University of South Carolina. It was used for various purposes, first as a Music School, then as the ROTC building, and currently as the Art and Media Arts? department building.
Named after the first chairman of the local school board, Colonel FW McMaster, the McMaster School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1997.
