Also known as the Tokena Angus Farm, the McPhail Angus Farm is a historic site in Seneca, South Carolina. It was built in 1902 by John Augustus McPhail. The lot was believed to be a portion of the former Beaverdam Plantation owned once by the Revolutionary War patriot, Samuel Earle.
Originally used for growing cotton, the McPhail Angus Farm didn?t really achieve success until it started breeding Angus cows. In 1936, the family bought their first registered Angus which led to the development of the first black Angus herds in the state. It also produced fescue for feeding the cattle and as a seed crop.
The McPhail Angus Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. It was also named as a South Carolina Century Farm and a National Historic Herd by the American Angus Association.
