The Neal and Dixon?s Warehouse was built around the mid 1920s, about 1926, for Js Neal, CO Dixon, and JH Dixon, Sr. It was constructed to serve as a tobacco warehouse. It is historically significant for two major reasons. One, it is an excellent example of a tobacco warehouse construction from its time. And two, it played a major part in the tobacco market in the area and state.
The Neal and Dixon?s Warehouse is reputed to be the one of the largest and most modern of all the other tobacco warehouses in the state of South Carolina. Being huge, it seems just necessary that it also has a big operation, and requires a good number of employees. At some point, it is said that it employed up to 800 employees in one season.
