Also known as the Old Ninety Six and Star Fort, the Ninety Six National Historic Site is a US National Historic Site near Greenville, South Carolina. It was established as an NHS in 1976 in efforts to preserve the site, which was where the Ninety Six, South Carolina was founded during the early days of the 18th century.
The village of Ninety Six got its name from its distance from the town of Keowee, which was a Cherokee settlement. It became prosperous just around the time of the Revolutionary War and it became the site where the first battle south of New England took place.
Currently, the Ninety Six National Historic Site is a National Park Service-operated venue. It has a visitor center and a small museum where artifacts found around the area are displayed.
