Designed by the nationally acclaimed architect Frank Pierce Milburn, the O?Donnell House is a historic house in Sumter, South Carolina. It was originally built around the mid 1800s, about 1840, as a frame house in the Italianate style. It was then remodelled by Milburn in 1905 in a striking Neoclassical style.
The O?Donnell House is best known for being a great example of a Neoclassical house. When it was remodelled, it was owned by a successful local businessman and banker, Neil O?Donnell. He wanted to transform the house into something spectacular, and Milburn delivered magnificently.
Today, the O?Donnell House stands as one of the few examples of this style of architecture in Sumter. It is also considered as one of Milburn?s most important works.
