Also known as the Gaillard-Colclough House, the Orange Grove is a historic plantation in Dalzell, South Carolina. It was built in 1851. Its plantation house is noted for being an excellent adaptation of a house that was greatly damaged in a tornado.
The tragic event happened in 1924. A tornado tore off the Orange Grove?s roof and most of its second story. Instead of rebuilding the whole second floor, the owners salvaged what remains and built a roof over the half story that still remains intact. The result conformed to the early twentieth century architectural trends and practices.
Aside from its architecture, the Orange Grove became significant for its association with the Gaillard family, descendants to the French Huguenot settlers who moved to the area in its early days.
