The Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum came to being in the summer months of 1975. Its first major exhibit had been none other than had been the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier of legendary proportions that first came to town via the Charleston Harbor. After several months, the impressive ship had become open to the public during the 200th anniversary of the US Navy on the 3rd of January 1976.
Today, the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum had become one of the world?s largest maritime museums. Many of its exhibits are of historical significance. One such example would be the USS Laffey, a destroyer that has been marked as a historical landmark ship. The USS Laffey is fondly referred to as ?The Ship That Would Not Die?. Another classic example would be Clamagore, a Balao class submarine.
