Built by the Manchester and Augusta Railroad in 1888, the Pinewood Depot is a historic railway station in Pinewood, South Carolina. It was intended to serve as a part of the company?s Sumter to Denmark line. However, when it was completed in 1889, it was used by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.
The town of Pinewood is a product of the establishment of this rail station. It was then called Clarendon, after the county it was then a part of. It was then renamed in 1902, and became a part of Sumter County in 1920.
The Pinewood Depot was last used in the mid 1950s, when the passenger service stopped. The building was then used by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad and then donated to the Sumter County Historical Society.
