The Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site is a very notable spot in Beech Island, South Carolina. It was established in 1857 for the well known politician, former State Senator James Henry Hammond.
The Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site features a Greek Revival mansion completed in 1859, after the design of the esteemed Louis Berckmans. On top of which is an excellent view of the Savannah River valley. Alongside the grand plantation house, there is also a lane accented by 145-year-old magnolia trees.
After the Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site was donated to the state of South Carolina in 1973 by one of Hammond?s descendants, John Shaw Billings, the former editor of Time, Fortune, and Life magazines, it was made into a state park.
