The Hilton Head Island is a naturally rich area, making it unsurprising that it is home to several preserves and forests. One good example of such is the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, located in Greenwood Drive.
Covering 605 acres of land, the Sea Pines Forest Preserve is an excellent spot to visit if you?re interested in spending some time outdoors. The site has about 8 miles of hiking trails that will take you along antebellum rice dikes built in the 1840s as well as old logging trails that dates back to the 1950s.
The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is also rich in wildlife and history. It is home to alligators, birds, lizards, turtles, and other indigenous fauna and flora. It is also the site of an old Indian Village and Shell Ring that dates back to 4000 years ago.
