Built in 1790, the Smith?s Tavern is a historic site in Roebuck, South Carolina. It was once a stagecoach stop and a commercial inn, located at the entrance of a development in the county of Spartanburg.
The Smith?s Tavern got its name after Captain William James Smith who built and owned the property initially. Captain Smith was a Revolutionary army officer who hailed from Pennsylvania and moved to the South after the war. The building was situated on a road taken as a primary route to Asheville, North Carolina from Columbia, South Carolina. It is also on the same area as the historic Walnut Grove Plantation.
The Smith?s Tavern was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
