Located in the High Hills of Santee is the historic St. Mark?s Episcopal Church. It is either the fourth or fifth church for the St. Mark?s Parish, built in 1855.
The St. Mark?s Parish was founded by the South Carolina Assembly in 1767. They had other earlier churches, but most have been replaced for various reasons. The first one was burned down during the American Revolution. The current one, however, was only moved to its known location today, from its original lot that was donated by the Richardson and Manning families.

The St. Mark?s Parish is also known for being where various prominent families have attended church regularly. At least three governors were known to be regular church goers at this church.

The current St. Mark?s Parish is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978.
