The Stateburg Historic District is a historic area in the High Hills of Santee, in the locale known as Stateburg. It is historically significant for being closely associated with General Thomas Sumter, a Revolutionary War officer who, in 1783, founded the town. Thomas wanted the place to be declared as the state capital, but it lost to Columbia just with a few votes.

The Stateburg Historic District was initially used as a summer destination to the people of Charleston. They built their summer houses here so they can escape the heat. This allowed it to become an important antebellum residential area.

The Stateburg Historic District is composed of eight contributing properties, not yet counting the Church of the Holy Cross and the Borough House Plantation which are both National Historic Landmarks.
