According to some, the Talbird-Sams House was built by Henry Talbird in the late 1700s. Some physical evidences can back up this theory, and even though there?s nothing saying that the house was constructed in 1786, some structural elements can place the event around the time. However, some reports claim that it was not until the 1800s when the house was built. In fact, they even say that it was Lewis Reeve Sams who built the house and not Talbird.
In any case, the house was owned by the Talbird-Sams family for a long time, except for the Civil War years when it was used as the Union Hospital # 3. Restorations were done on the house over time, just like the 1960s rehabilitation that the Talbird-Sams House went through.
