A botanical garden managed and preserved by the South Dakota State University under its Horticulture, Forestry, Landscape and Parks Department, the McCrory Gardens was named after the university?s head horticulture professor S.A. McCrory. The 65-acre Gardens is actually made up of a series of fourteen themed gardens including rose and herb gardens, a 1140-feet long and 6-feet high hedge maze for kids, a memorial garden spot for the late George S. Mickelson late governor of South Dakota, and 45-acre part dedicated as an arboretum for scientific studies and display of native plant species. The McCrory Gardens also house the Centennial Prairie Garden which consists of five grassland settings. Some of these environments depict that of a short grass and tall grass prairies, and the Black Hills Montane Prairie.
