For some unknown reason, the fireflies in the Elkmont community blink in sync with each other every June. This natural phenomenon has attracted tons of tourists in the past, making the locals designate a Firefly Week to celebrate such a spectacle that can?t be found elsewhere in the United States.

According to research, the fireflies in this area have an innate sensor that tells them to turn their light on if another firefly nearby has theirs on. Explanation for this isn?t found just yet, but the marvel is surely a sight to see.

When visiting the area for the Firefly Week, guests are advised to follow rules and regulations. Some of this includes the prohibition of private vehicles in the area, so everyone should take the trolley. Use of flash is also banned, as this could disturb the fireflies from putting on their ?show?.
