Designed by the highly esteemed architect, William Strickland, the Tennessee State Capitol is a Greek Revival legislative building located in Nashville, Tennessee. It was completed in 1859, fourteen years after the construction was started.
The Tennessee State Capitol features a good number of notable elements. One of which is the fact that its main building is one f the eleven state structures that do not sport a dome. Also, statuary on the grounds of the capitol is mostly in honor of the two of the three former presidents of the US, Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson, who were Tennessee natives. The tomb of another former president and governor of the state, James K. Polk, can also be found here.
The Tennessee State Capitol was declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1971.
