Located in downtown Nashville, Tennessee is a place where people can view the history of the state ? the Tennessee State Museum. The museum contains several collections chronicling the origins of Tennessee, from the pre-colonization up until the 20th century. The museum covers significant periods such as American Civil War, Frontier exploration and the Age of Jackson.

A 60,000 square foot area in the museum holds thousands of collections in its permanent exhibits, while another 10,000 feet area contains the temporary displays. The military section of the museum contains one of the largest collections in the US; thousands of American Civil War, World War I and World War II uniforms, weapons, flags and various memorabilia are on display.

The museum currently sits at the bottommost floor of the James K. Polk building, a building it shares with the Tennessee Performing Center. Visitors can plan their visits by checking the museum?s calendar in its website.
