For a night of live performance in San Antonio, Texas, check out the Majestic Theatre at 208 East Houston Street. The Majestic Theatre is the city?s oldest and largest atmospheric theatre. For many years, it held the record for being the largest theatre in Texas and the second-largest moviehouse in the US. It is also the first building of its type to be fully air-conditioned.

This 2,311-seater, Spanish Revival-styled theatre was built in 1929. Its architectural features include a cast-iron canopy over the sidewak, a cave-like lobby at the first floor, and a 76-foot tall vertical sign adorned by the famous ?strutting peacock?. The theatre auditorium is decorated with stuffed birds, replicas of well-known Hellenistic sculptures, and real, treated cypress trees. Mask-like faces are carved along the mezzanine balcony and the stage itself. For its cultural significance, the theatre was added to the National Historical Landmark list in 1975.
