San Antonio Museum of Art is located in 200 West Jones Ave., San Antonio, Texas; just a 13-minute drive from San Antonio International Airport. The museum is house to a large collection of impressive antiquities ranging from Contemporary to American, European, Asian and Oceanic Arts.

Established in 1981, the museum was created by renovating the historic Lone Star Brewery purchased in the early 1970s, funded mostly through grants from the City of San Antonio and from a number of private individuals and foundations. During its onset, the museum focused the art of the Americas, including pre-Columbian, Latin American and Spanish arts. As well as eighteenth to nineteenth century European and American paintings, photography and sculptures and its structure?s multi-windowed crosswalks offer an amazing view of downtown San Antonio.

The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Latin American Art which opened in 1998 is the biggest highlight among the collections. Housed on a 30,000 square foot wing is a magnificent collection of Latin American art in the United States. With pre-Columbian, Spanish colonial and contemporary works, the collection will surely be enjoyed by tourists and art enthusiasts. Computer stations are also present which adds historical interactivity to your experience. The Lenora and Walter F. Brown Asian Art Wing displays another major collection mostly focused on Asian art, which made it the biggest collection of Asian art in Texas.

The museum also offers a lot of diverse and stimulating educational programs and resource for various audiences to learn about art from a wide range of history and world cultures. Public programs such as lectures, tours, performances and gallery talks are also present in the museum. San Antonio Museum of Art is also a perfect venue for gallery presentations, weddings and corporate presentations.

The museum is open on Tuesdays to Sundays, 10AM to 5PM and closed on the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Easter Sunday and Fiesta Friday.
