The Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark is the third water park developed and created in Galveston, Texas. Schlitterbahn literally means ?slippery road? in German pertaining to the long tubes and slides that have made the Schlitterbahn water parks around the United States a household name.
The Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark was given an opening date of May 2005 but some unfortunate events moved the opening date of this waterpark to March 12, 2006 with only one section of the park open to the public.
The water park has three different areas for guests to enjoy. Each area boasts of their unique attractions that spells fun for the whole family. The areas around the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark all use distinct German names such as ?Blastenhoff,? ?Surfenburg? and ?Wasserfest.?
Blastenhoff features a few neat attractions including the Whitewater series of attractions including whitewater cover, whitewater river and whitewater beach. Blastenhoff is also the home of the Blastenhoff hot tub, a huge tub with a swim-up built on it. This part of the water park is also the home for the Cliffhanger Speed Slides and the F5 Twin Twisters.
The Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark?s Surfenburg area offers faster slides and more thrills with some interesting slides and attractions such as the Boogie Bahn, Kristal Beach, Kristal River, Tempest, Thunder Tub, Tiki Tikes, Wolfpack and Wave Lagoon, and the Dragon Blaster slide that utilizes an uphill and downhill force for an exhilarating ride.
Among the three, Wasserfest is the most kid-friendly area in the entire park. Wasserfest features the Torrent Beach Kid?s Area and the Wasserfest Kid?s Area. Other attractions and slides in the Wasserfest area include the Faust and the Furious, Guada-Loopy Tubes Chutes, Rohr. It also includes the Torrent Beach and Wasserfest Hot Tub with its own swim-up bar.
