Fondly called Wayne?s Wonderland, the Capital Reef National Park of Torrey had earned the nickname in the 1920s from local boosters such as Joseph Hickman. It features various geographical wonders, from gigantic monoliths to the Waterpocket Fold, a warp in the very crust of the Earth that?s over one hundred miles long. The monocline is one of the most famous in the country and extends all the way from Thousand Lakes Mountain before reaching Lake Powell, which was once known as Colorado River.
Utah?s Capital Reef National Park is every naturalist?s paradise. There are also canyons to explore as well as buttes and ridges which you could hike and climb to your heart?s content.
For those bringing their kids and families, you have several options to explore the area. There?s the Junior Ranger Program, for starters, which provides an exciting and educational tour for the kids and provide them with an embroidered patch and signed certificate upon the program?s completion. For the Family Fun Pack, participating families would get involved in bird-watching, star gazing, contour map reading, and play pioneer games as well as visiting the Ripple Rock Nature Center.
