A once-isolated canyon on the Green River in the state of Utah, the Desolation Canyon has a lot of stories to tell. One of the most popular is the tale that involves the good deed of the well-known bandit, Butch Cassidy. According to stories, a poor family used to live in the area, and the government was on their tail, asking them to pay for their rent. Sadly, the family does not have enough money. Butch Cassidy learned of the story when they passed by the ranch and gave the family the rent money. The family paid the rent, and Cassidy?s gang robbed the government official?s stagecoach. They then gave the money to the family again.

Aside from that tale, the Desolation Canyon was also once traversed by John Wesley Powell under the sponsorship of the Smithsonian Institution. It was also declared a National Historic Landmark and is now a popular rafting venue.
