Also known as the Old City Hall, the Salt Lake City Council Hall played a major role in the city?s history and development. The Greek Revival structure was built in 1864 as a replacement to an older and smaller city hall. It was designed by architect William Folsom, who was also the official architect for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Salt Lake City Council Hall is a witness to numerous tensions and conflicts that has broken out among the local and official Mormons and non-Mormons. Dramatic events such as a declaration of martial law also took place here in 1874.

Today, the Salt Lake City Council Hall is home to the Utah Office of Tourism, as well as the Utah Film Commission.
