Sandglass Theater is a company that has internationally earned its mark by merging diverse forms of art such as puppetry, visual imagery, and music in one theatrical setting. Since it was founded in 1982, the production company has performed in numerous festivals and theaters worldwide.

The company was established in 1982 by a German couple, Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass. Sandglass aims to provide quality productions using puppets as primary media in collaboration with live actors, composers, and artists. In 1986, Sandglass Theater relocated its base from Munich, Germany to Putney, Vermont. A sixty seat barn theater was added ten years later. Not only does this intimate location showcase noteworthy shows, it also holds extensive training programs.

Nowadays, Sandglass Theater is the host of various series for guest artists. One of these is Winter Sunshine, a series that transports the art puppetry to a particular market of audience, the family. Another guest series is dedicated to social activism, the Voices of Community series. And due to the outstanding trust and patronage it has built with diverse types of audience, UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette) awarded the theater company with the most coveted Citation of Excellence numerous times. In 2010, Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass were recognized for their artistic contribution to the state of Vermont when they themselves received the Governor?s Award for Excellence in the Arts. The coagulation of all the recognitions Sandglass Theater reaped all throughout its years of existence further fortifies the uniqueness and bankability of its art form.

Sandglass Theater is a member of the National Performance Network and Network of Ensemble. It is also an affiliate of a non-profit organization named Sandglass Center for Puppetry.
