The South Charleston Museum is located at the historic LaBelle Theater, in South Charleston, West Virginia. The museum is operated by a non-profit organization and is a noted member to several organizations such as the American Association of Museums, the Council of Historic Organizations, and the South Charleston Chamber of Commerce.

This museum is noted for its contribution to the society. It highly depicts the past and present situation of the South Charleston and its earlier settlers. It protects and preserves the artifacts, historical documents, photos and other areas that tell the story of the old town.

Opened in 2004, the museum showcases several West Virginia films that include the landmarks films within the region and in the State. For educational purposes, the museum provides various educational programs and events that cater for school groups. These events such as the Belgian Festival, Antique Appraisal fair, and the History Alive presentations, are just a few that are educational and provide more in-depth explanation about the town?s history and background.

Visitors don?t have to limit themselves to the museum since there are a few attractions as well. One of them is the Indian Mound. It?s known as the second largest remaining Indian burial mound within the State. Scholars believed that the earlier settlers of South Charleston were Indian archeologists of the Adena Culture. The early ?mount builders? were known to flatten and reshaping the head of the mount because of their cultural practice.

The Interpretive Center on the other hand, was established to provide information regarding the existence of the Adena Indians, their history and their contributions within the society. The center displayed Adena artifacts, model, brochures, pictures, films maps of other Indian mounds within West Virginia, reader rail and historical documents. Guide tours are available for educational tours and civic group tours.
