Possible move to Northern Idaho next year.

Just thought I'd strike up a dialogue with the Idaho crew. I am "retiring" from the Navy next year and instead of waiting a few years, the wife and I are really serious about moving over there next year. If it goes to plan, we will be settling in the Coeur d' Alene/Hayden area. I've served 19 years in the Navy, married with 5 children living at home.

Don't know how to describe it but the air seems fresher, the people nicer and even though I've only been there three times in the last 14 years when I am in that area I feel like I'm at home.

Looking for information on job opportunities. I can find the obvious stuff through search engines, but there are a ton of companies, etc... I probably don't even know about.

FWIW I am more than willing to commute a bit as necessary and am already looking in the Spokane area.

My background is electronic system maintenance, but I also have a substantial amount of leadership experience with small teams. The job I do doesn't even have to be related to electronics, I am more than capable of trying just about anything.

Any insight on job opportunities, with a salary in the 40K plus range would be greatly appreciated.

Well, in my opinion, things get a bit friendlier the further you go North. I'm in Sandpoint, but there are a number of firms up here in this area, though I'm unsure for certain who is actually hiring. The truth is that the employment situation is brutile here, but Spokane might be more your target in terms of work. Just off the top of my head, I'd pursue Craigslist and the job services of Spokane, Coeur D alene and Sandpoint. Here's a link for the Sandpoint job service showing employment........ https://www2.labor.idaho.gov/IdahoWo...Length=&jsSOC= You can tack on extra miles to cover the CDA area..... and I can give you names to electronics firms and the like, that might help you.

I appreciate the response and would appreciate any information you can provide. Sandpoint looks to be well within my commuting range as well.

Not too concerned with actual jobs now as they will probably be long gone by the time I make it up there, but getting an idea of potential employers.

One of the places I'm really interested in is the Naval Facility in Bayview. I am a Submarine Sonar Technician, so there is some relation to what I do now.

Thanks for your help.

Jess

I've been watching the job listings at USAJOBS for awhile. Soon I will be in my window for actually being able to apply for a job as the federal government can hire 6 months out from my retirement date. Right now there isn't anything over there that I am qualified for, but it always changes.

Hello Jess

There were some jobs for Homeland Security up north at the border. Look here

Mission Support Specialist Job

Job Title: MISSION SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Department: Department Of Homeland Security
Agency: Customs and Border Protection
Job Announcement Number: MHCBPMP-453474-OC

My twin sons are in C school in Pensacola right now. They are CTs and will be going to Yokosuka in August - each on a different ship.

Thank you for your service. BTW there are many fed jobs on that website within Post Falls Spokane area.
