What if the NFL Played by Teachers' Rules?

Fran Tarkenton writes in a Wall Street Journal op-ed an article entitled "What if the NFL Played by Teachers' Rules?" The complete article can be read at Fran Tarkenton: What if the NFL Played by Teachers' Rules? - WSJ.com My thoughts are that the article could be extended far beyond the teachers union. However, the teachers union does does support Obama and does enjoy benefits from the administration especially in the stimulus and his jobs act. I especially like this excerpt as it sounds like rhetoric we are hearing every day and of course the solution, build infra-structure as if that were the problem.
Quote:
Of course, a few wild-eyed reformers might suggest the whole system was broken and needed revamping to reward better results, but the players union would refuse to budge and then demonize the reform advocates: "They hate football. They hate the players. They hate the fans." The only thing that might get done would be building bigger, more expensive stadiums and installing more state-of-the-art technology. But that just wouldn't help.

not really fair, a coaches performance is easy to measure, as they either win or lose, a teacher's is not so simple and could get penalized for things beyond their control (or for say teaching evolution where the principal is a creationist believer).

what if teachers played by nfl rules? that would be a far scarier picture
