Well, my perceptions may be off. I know my proverbial skin is pretty calloused, possibly to the point that I'm reacting with kid gloves. I love a good argument, but I know not everyone does. I'm probably contributing to my perceptions of a "tread lightly" attitude.

I like the rule "thick skin and no personal attacks" - as long as it's recognized that "ideas" deserve no inherent respect; as long as "That's an idiotic idea" is OK, even if "you're an idiot" is not.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.

Jews should've stoned him. If they were really so worried about him being the messiah, you'd think they would've disqualified him from being that.

Go.
So, in a later post you explain in great detail the political reason Jesus was crucified, but not the Spiritual reason. I also might add that the Sanhedrin (Jewish ruling priesthood) at the time had no power under Roman rule to put anyone to death. The conspiracy, as the Gospels point out, was to get Rome to perceive Jesus as a radical seditionist capable of stirring the population up into revolting against Cesar. That is why they had to appeal to Rome and Pilot, the Roman Procurator of the region. Pilot wanted nothing to do with Jesus but capitulated when the crowd, having been bribed by the Sanhedrin, called for the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus. This is the method and madness perpetrated by the ruling class, not the masses, to rid them of Jesus as a perceived threat to their tradition and power.

But, what is even more important is the reason that GOD had his own self, Jesus, crucified. If you are a student of the Bible, you will soon learn that the one primary theme woven from beginning to end - book to book - old testament to new, is God's plan for the redemption of all mankind. Christ's purpose was to be the propitiation of our own sin. We, as humans, are powerless to save ourselves and God, in His love for us, sent Jesus to die for us in our place, a sacrifice once and for all. Our only part is to choose to believe and embrace the Gospel as our one and only way to be forever with God in Heaven the way he originally planned before Adam and Eve corrupted God's creation and plan through the original sin. Because of their sin, all mankind inherits sin and is powerless to free themselves from the debt demanded of God which is eternal death and separation from God forever.

Jesus was crucified so that we could have redemption from this penalty to Live and not Die. But that choice God leaves in our hands. He provided the means of redemption, Jesus, we must provide the action of acceptance. Those that reject this path that God gave us are condemned by their own sins to eternal separation in the Lake of Fire apart from God as is clearly stated in Revelations chapter 20 verses 11 through 15.

There is no mistaking why Jesus the Christ was crucified, whether you call it the hand of Jews, Priests, Romans, or just an angry, bribed mob. These were just instruments and tools in God's redemptive plan and overall purpose for mankind's salvation - through His Son, Jesus.

Well, your actually correct. The penalty in Jewish Law for blasphemy was stoning (being stoned to death). However, due to Roman rule, they were not allowed to carry out the Jewish Law, they had to abdicate to Roman Law and that meant death by crucifixion if an appropriate charge could be brought to Rome. Had they actually stoned Jesus while at trial according to Jewish Law, they themselves would be subject to Roman incarceration and even death by Roman soldiers.

So the Sanhedrin conspired to bring up charges of sedition against Jesus, claiming that He was dividing the people against Rome and Cesar. This was their only recourse, since Jesus had been such a public figure for three years, His sudden disappearance would have raised suspicion and inquiry by those closest to Him.

As far as having Jesus "disqualified" as the Christ, the Messiah, Jesus gave the Priest and Pharisees ample opportunity to discredit him and they could not. Jesus's claim to be God cannot be disputed, the text is clear, Jesus believed himself to be God and if he truly were not, then the Sanhedrin had every right to put Him to death. The mere fact of His Resurrection makes it clear that Jesus was and is who He claimed to be.

Simply put, Christ died on the cross to redeem the world and save our sorry souls from Satan. God's plan was told by Isaiha hundreds of years before the coming of Christ. People can dissect the bible and read and re-write it in their own words, come up with new religions that take away from the true meanings that are written in the original form but the bottom line is Christ died for our sins so we could live forever....end of story! If you don't believe you will surely die and Satan will love you for your stupidity!

Well said TDmaster! Your grasp of your theology is admirable.
