Laptop Repair?

Our laptop just died after 1 year, and of course, the warranty ended just 3 days before. The HP authorized repair centers want $400 just to look at it, and I'd have to mail it somewhere. Where is a good, honest repair shop?

Or maybe someone could help:

Model Pavillion DV7-3065dx. The battery started dying, and after I found out about the "soft restore" it was fine for a while. Now it won't even turn on, even with the A/C power adapter. I've heard that HP configures their computers just like their toners - once the ink runs down to 1/2 buy a new one or it will haunt you. I told my wife not to buy this POS, and I've been fighting with everything on it for the past year just to keep it running.

Geeksquad = once again worthless

Even though we still have a year left on our service, they would have charged me twice for the new power cord, and were no help at fudging the warranty.

$85 later and the laptop works.

Still need a battery. I think I found one for $40. Surprisingly Batteries Plus doesn't carry it. This HP has just been a stepchild!!!

if you have to spend more than a hundred bucks to repair a computer I'd suggest just getting a new one. Sure they can be costly, but with the way technology moves the new one will be much better and last a tad longer anyway. Dumping too much money on an older computer is like shining a turd. No matter how much you polish it... it's still a turd.

Unless of course you had a high end gaming type machine then it may be worth it to salvage.

The problem is it is only a year old. I got a new battery and power supply for $70 yesterday. Not quite OEM quality, but they work. Back to Best Buy to get my $85 back...

(I told the wife I had connections at Dell, but "this one plays movies...")

That is the WORST myth ever. I've had nothing but expensive problems with Apple products and will never look back. Don't get me started on iJunk.
