This isn't really North Birmingham, but if you're a beer geek the J. Clyde is awesome.

Most of the better drinking places are going to be in Southside or further out of town. I can't recall any good places in the North part of town.

Steele lounge or Matthews downtown, both are technically on 1st ave north but not really north bham.

Highlands is my all time favorite Bar Restaurant. I crave their food, and we stop in every time we are back in B-ham. Technically not on the North side of town, but north of Homewood and Hoover.......
