I consider Wilson's Creek to be in two sections. The southern end of the lower section is best described where Adako Rd meets Brown Mountain Beach Rd. The upper end of the lower section is where Brown Mountain Beach Rd. T-intersects with Hwy 90. The whole part is driveable albeit dirt/gravel. This may not answer your question to this point, but since it's easily accessible, it's popular with weekend fishermen, swimmers, waders, scout troops, drunks, RV parks, etc. You get the picture.
Where you cross Hwy 90, it gets a bit more rugged. On a map, this will show up as Mortimer, NC. Anything north of here on Wilson's creek is fairly deserted. Trails tend to be OK, but haphazard in spots. Just stick to the stream and you can't get lost. If you're up the challenge, there's some decent flyfishing for wild trout up this way. Enjoy.
