The old record for the largest hailstone had a diameter of 5.7 (14.5 centimeters) inches, a circumference of 17.5 inches (44.5 centimeters), and was found in Coffeyville, Kansas, on September 3, 1970.

They have a copy or model of it in the Dalton Museum in Coffeyville.

As much as you hear about hail and tornadoes in Kansas, I have lived here all my life and never suffered from either. The largest hail I think I have seen is maybe quarter size, and I saw a tornado once in Whichita when I was 12.

We had some out by Basehor a few years back that was tennis ball sized... Happened mid-day and sounded like the roof was coming down. Kansas weather is just crazy.
