West side caves

Im curious. I noticed a whole slew of caves up on the hills just west of Ft.Apache, so i decided to ride my bike up there. Its incredibly fascinating, it definitly looks like a teenager hang out. However at a couple of the caves i saw that they had put up large metal fencing to keep people out, and it looks like the caves go back pretty far. Anyone have any ideas about these caves? Are they old mining caves?

They were working mines. The ones that are closed off have dangerous conditions such as loose ceilings, bad air or vertical drops that will kill you. The BLM has a limited budget to get THOUSANDS of mines closed off to prevent accidents from happening.
