knowing the lyrics to non-hit songs
As far as I know, the following 20th century pop tunes were never released as singles, and were never played on the radio except, perhaps, as a joke. But almost everyone knows their lyrics anyway.
From:
Annie: Hard-Knock Life
The Brady Bunch: Sunshine Day and We Can Make the World a Whole Lot Brighter
A Charlie Brown Christmas: Christmas Time is Here
Fiddler on the Roof: Tradition!
The Flintstones: Here We Come on the Run, Open up Your Heart and Let the Sunshine in, and The Twitch
How the Grinch Stole Christmas: the theme song and what I call Wahoo Torrez
Jesus Christ SuperStar: King Herod's Song and What's the Buzz?
Mary Poppins: almost everything
The Music Man: almost everything
Oklahoma: almost everything
The Partridge Family: On the Road and Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque
Peter Pan: I Won't Grow Up
Rent: Seasons of Love (this is the one about the seconds in a year)
The Sound of Music: almost everything
The Wizard of Oz: every song!
I know that this list is baby-boomer centric. If you know of any more contemporary songs, please list them.
I know that some of the songs from musicals were released as singles, but I am writing about the ones that were never officially released.
