Why the Bible should not be taken literally

Having been raised Catholic, I don't know anyone who is Catholic who was taught to take the Bible literally as to what happened 6,000 years ago. There are many denominations of Christianity that don't.

This passage is why evangelical fundamentalists consider the bible to be the authoritative, inspired word of God.
