I can back that up.I have been to all those places.North Myrtle isn't as big of a tourist trap. They're trying to get rid of all the bike rallies and other big events.
myrtle beach tried and failed haha
but you're right, north myrtle is definitely less "touristy". and the further north you go, the less touristy it gets.
Myrtle beach is my favorite; however, if you are a big shell collector and I' talking huge shells and state shells, you must try Edisto and walk to the far left.
Folly beach and isle of palms definitely have something to them that the Nj beaches dont. Surpringly even on the busy weekends it they as packed as i have seen other beaches up north
IOP is nice, up towards Wild Dunes can be nice and secluded. Sullivan's Island is OK but parking can be a pain. Folly Beach is run down and cool, laid back. Kiawah and Seabrook are private and beautiful.
I grew up on James Island, so Folly is "my beach", although I really liked going out to remote areas like Devo Bank before everyone found out about them.
Folly Beach, by far. Myrtle is good for spring breakers, Pawley's Island/Litchfield area for quieter vacations. Folly has the best of everything, including being 20 minutes from Charleston.
